In 2023, Virginia Theological Seminary was in the process of updating their Welcome Center. This is an on-campus facility designed to help orient new students and visitors to the campus. Central to this redesign is a large exhibit space where visitors can view panels that introduce the history and nature of the Seminary. The exhibit includes a large (65”) touch-display intended to provide up-to-the-moment information for visitors.
Redmon designed and programmed a system for the touch display. This system would allow VTS staff to easily update content daily. The Welcome Center Display itself incorporates three content panes. One for the daily commentary produced by the Dean, one for the list of upcoming events for the month, and one containing an interactive directory of staff, faculty, and campus locations.
Approach
Redmon developed a technique using a Windows Desktop application programmed to allow VTS staff to update content. The program exports data in a format directly accessible to HTML. Also, the exported data combines HTML layout and graphics; then published to the media player controlling the large touch display.
Redmon developed a software tool using a Windows Desktop application. This allows VTS staff to update content on their display systems.
